Veteran late model driver Kevin 'the Kid' Coyne raced his way to
victory lane under ULMA sanctioning last weekend at Central Missouri
Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri to register his first 2009
victory and first with ULMA since July of 2007. The Kingsville,
Missouri driver led every lap at CMS and fended off a hard-charging
Shawn Rayfield of O'Fallon, Missouri for the win in his Buckner Surplus
#22 American Made late model. There were 23 late model drivers on hand
with 15 members present amonth the competitors signed in for racing
action. In a race slowed by five caution periods Coyne was able to
maintain his lead on each restart with Rayfield adding extra excitement
to every ensuing restart, especially as the pair battled their way off
of corner two and down the back straightaway. Coyne entered corner
three in the preferred line each time and was strong off of corner
number four as the laps wound down. Behind the leaders, Bob King of
Independence, Missouri had his hands full with up-and-coming driver
Dwight Niehoff of Lockwood, Missouri. Each week, Niehoff continues to
impress the fans and his fellow competitors and last weekend was no
exception as the youngster raced with veteran skill inside the top five
the entire duration of the race. Track points leader Jon Binning and
overall ULMA point leader Kevin Kaiser also raced hard to secure
positions near the top. As the checkered flags waved Coyne beat
Rayfield to the line by one car length. King held on for third with
Niehoff, Binning, and Kaiser claiming spots inside the top six. Robbie
Test and Allen Perryman also claimed top ten finishes by coming away
ninth and tenth. The Saturday-night action at CMS continues again this
weekend as drivers have one more week to tune up before the
$1,500-to-win race, which takes place at CMS on Friday, September 4th.
Drivers are reminded that the opportunity to save for this track special
is this Saturday, August 29th. Entry for the event included a pit pass
for the driver and race entry fee for $50 if paid by the deadline. Same
night and post-deadline entries are available for $75 the night of the
event. Check out the event information on the track's official Web site
at
