Three
United Late Model Association-sanctioned tracks were in action last
Friday and Saturday night throughout Central, West-Central, and
South-Central Missouri at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS), Callaway Raceway,
and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). Robbie Test became the eleventh
different winner of the 2009 season when he claimed the CMS checkers;
Jeff Schlup bested a stout field at Callaway Raceway for his latest ULMA
win of the season. Kevin Kaiser is the new leader atop the ULMA
standings heads into this weekend.
Last
week's sanctioned action began Friday, July 3rd at BMS as five ULMA
members were on hand for the evening's races. Kevin Coyne crossed the
line fifth in the feature event with Randy Ainsworth close behind in
sixth position. Other members present included Jake Williams, David
Barker, and Dwight Niehoff. ULMA member drivers compete at BMS and earn
points towards the association championship by racing against open late
models on a weekly basis, making Coyne's and Ainsworth's runs all the
more impressive. BMS is scheduled for another night of racing this
Friday, July 10th. For general track information log onto the track's
official Web site at
www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com;
for additional on race day call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located 45
minutes south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Jeff
Schlup of California, MO claimed his third ULMA win of the season and
third at Callaway Raceway this year. In eight feature events at
Callaway this season, Schlup has three wins and Javan Payne, who was
last week's winner, also has one victory, giving ULMA members half the
feature wins at the raceway this year. At Callaway, ULMA cars run
head-to-head with CRATE late models. This year, the ULMA opened up its
rules to allow CRATE racing amongst its ranks and warmly welcomes CRATE
late model drivers as members. There were 8 ULMA member drivers present
among a total of 18 on hand for the night's race action at Callaway.
Javan Payne kept his strong finishes going by following up last week's
win with a solid third-place outing, just ahead of Robbie Test in
fourth; Danny Lorton came away with a seventh-place finish. Schlup's
third victory ties him with J.D. Hubert as the only three-time winner of
the year under ULMA sanctioning. Callaway Raceway hosts another week of
competition this Friday, July 10th, according to the track schedule, if
the races are cancelled due to weather on Friday, the program will be
run on Sunday, July 12th. For complete track information check out the
track's Web site at
www.callawayraceways.com.
Saturday races at CMS continue to be hotly contested since late models
returned to the speedway. Robbie Test became the seventh different
winner in seven sanctioned events at the track this year last Saturday.
Of the 18 drivers on hand, ULMA members were strongly represented with
14 members present. Test's feature win did not come easy as he battled
fellow member David Barker early on for the win, Barker's late-race
mechanical woes allowed Test to grab the lead in the late stages of the
race as he had to fend off a hard-charging Kevin Kaiser for his
first-ever late model victory. Robbie's father, Bob, came home with a
strong run in the third spot as Danny Lorton posted a solid fifth-place
finish. Steve Clancy, Jon Binning, Randy Ainsworth, Dwight Niehoff, and
A.L. Barbour finished in the top ten with new ULMA member Brian Pipes
coming home eleventh. Will CMS have its first repeat winner of the year
this Saturday or will another new driver visit victory lane for the
first time? For complete track information be sure to check out
www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Lucas
Oil Speedway returns to weekly racing with their Countdown to the Crown
this Saturday, July 11th. ULMA members compete head-to-head with
Show-Me Race Series late models during weekly race action at the
speedway in order to earn points for the ULMA championship. For
complete track and schedule information visit

Even
though Robbie Test won a feature race and finished in the top five in
his other race last weekend, he loses the overall ULMA point's lead this
week to Kevin Kaiser. Several drivers have now reached the 15-race
plateau and have begun to discard their worst finishes of the year.
Kaiser hit the 15-race mark this past weekend, Kaiser has 19 starts,
Danny Lorton moves into third overall and has 17 starts this year.
Randy Ainsworth moved up to fourth position this week as Kevin Coyne
slipped back to fifth after he was unable to start the main event at CMS
last Saturday night. For complete standings, a schedule of events,
rules, board member contacts, and general association information visit
