For the first time ever ULMA drivers will compete at the Historic Half
Mile in Sedalia, Missouri, with two exciting events in scheduled for
2008. The first appearance at State Fair Speedway takes place on Sunday,
May 4th during the annual Bob Ramey Memorial special when ULMA drivers
compete for $750 to win and $150 to start the main event. Then, racing
action returns to the super fast speed plant during the Missouri State
Fair on Thursday, August 14th as the ULMA late models make their second
appearance along with Street Stocks and Modifieds. “It’s great to be
able to offer the fans and drivers an additional chance to compete
during the 2008 Missouri State Fair and to be able to bring the ULMA
late models in along with our modified competitors adds all of the
ingredients for a great show,” stated race organizer Clint Brown.
General admission prices for the August 14th fair races are just $8 for
adults, with kids ages 7-12 only $5. For more information on events at
the Historic Half Mile log onto www.sedaliastatefairspeedway.com. The
first ULMA “special event” of the year takes place on Saturday, April
19th at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri for a $1,000-to-win,
$200-to-start main event, this will be the first-ever appearance for
ULMA late models at 24 Raceway.
Over 50 member drivers are registered for the upcoming season. Drivers
will earn their points at four affiliated tracks for 2008. These tracks
are: Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri; Central Missouri Speedway in
Warrensburg, Missouri, which opens its season on Saturday, April 26th;
LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri, which opens on Friday, April 11th; and
Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, which kicks their season off
on Saturday, March 29th which is also the official start of the 2008
chase for the ULMA title. The points-earning season runs through
September, culminating with the second-annual Missouri State
Championships at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri on Saturday, September
13th. For the second year in a row ULMA drivers will earn points towards
the championship by keeping their 15 best points-earning nights
throughout the year. Once a driver accumulates 15 starts at any of the
four ULMA-affiliated tracks and special events they will begin to
discard their lowest points-earning nights and replace them with
improved performances. This formula led to a down-to-the-wire finish at
the end of the 2007 season when Brett Rollert edged out Jeff Schlup for
the inaugural title. Be sure to log onto the ULMA official Website at
www.ulmaracing.com for additional special race announcements and a full
schedule of this year’s action.
