ULMA Heads South this Weekend to Nevada
Speedway…Preps for October Race and Banquet!
Sam Stoecklin
September 20, 2007
The United Late Model Association (ULMA) rolls on down the Hwy 71
corridor this weekend to Nevada Speedway for its second post-season
special in as many weeks. Hot off the heels of last week’s highly
successful ULMA Missouri State Championships at LA Raceway, this
Saturday, September 22nd, the drivers will compete at Nevada Speedway in
Nevada, Missouri. Drivers will compete in an $800-to-win, $100-to-start
special feature event. Entry fee for participating ULMA drivers is $25.
All ULMA late model rules will be strictly enforced; participating
cars/drivers must go thru and pass pre-tech prior to the night’s
activities getting underway. Only ULMA members may compete in this
special race. ULMA membership forms are available by requesting them
from
unitedlatemodelassociation@hotmail.com or by visiting the
association’s Website at
www.ulmaracing.com . Prospective members may join the association
anytime between now and the day of the special event. Membership forms
will be available on the day of the event for drivers wishing to join
the association, the ULMA membership fee is just $50. Drivers are
reminded that stock valve angle is subject to technical inspection and
once each car goes through “pre-tech” that ULMA technical inspectors
reserve the right to further inspect all competing cars to ensure that
ULMA rules are strictly adhered to. Technical inspections may take place
both before and after the night’s racing. Nevada Speedway is a
quarter-mile, semi-banked dirt oval located off of Highway 71 at the
Camp Clark Exit, then West to the first stop light, South on Barrett and
continuing one-half mile to the gate entrance. General admission for
this special event is $10; reserved seats are $12 with pit passes at
$25. Gates will open at 5:30 PM with hot laps rolling off at 7 and
racing getting underway at 7:30. Contact the track at (417) 667-5859 or
on the day of the race at (417) 667-5859.
Last week, Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri, raced his way to victory
in the Missouri State Championships at LA Raceway in a fierce battle
with runner-up Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri. Bob King, Jon
Binning and Tommy Cordray finished third through fifth during the race
with ULMA Champion Brett Rollert coming from deep in the field to post a
sixth-place run. Schlup’s most recent victory, his eighth, tied him with
Rollert for most ULMA victories this season overall. There were 30 ULMA
member drivers on hand for the LA race. Several of the same drivers are
planning on making the trip south to Nevada for this weekend’s race as
the ULMA continues to reach a wider audience and as many late model
racing fans as it possibly can before heading into the off season.
Recently, ULMA learned that it has one more night of competition in
store for its 50-member strong contingent of drivers. After Nevada, the
ULMA drivers head over to Lucas Oil Speedway, the “Diamond of Dirt
Tracks” in Wheatland, Missouri, for one final race before the
association’s inaugural first season comes to a close. The Lucas Oil
Speedway race will take place during the first weekend of October and
will also serve as a membership drive race for next year’s season.
Details are still being worked out for this end-of-season race at the
high-profile facility and will be released in a future press release.
On Saturday night, October 20th, Brett Rollert will officially be
crowned the inaugural ULMA Champion at the association’s end-of-year
banquet in Sedalia, Missouri. The gala will take place at the Ramada Inn
Banquet Room; the Ramada Inn is located just off of Highway 50 near
Wal-Mart. Special room rates are available for those wishing to stay
overnight for $55.95 per room. Attendees must call ahead to make
reservations; simply mention “ULMA Banquet” to receive your special room
rate. Festivities get underway with doors opening at 5 and social hour
lasting until 6. Dinner will be from 6 to 7 with the awards presentation
following immediately after dinner and a DJ and dancing afterwards until
11PM. Tickets are $25 each or $40 for couples. Meal selection is a
two-meat buffet style serving with a cash bar available. The top ten in
the final standings will be rewarded for their efforts throughout the
night with trophies and point’s fund money checks. Brett Wood will
officially be crowned the Rookie of the Year during the night and the
top 24 will be eligible for prizes. Member drivers are reminded that
attendance is mandatory to claim contingency prizes.
