Association (ULMA) Win of the Year and Continues to Climb Up the
Standings!

Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri, captured his fourth W-K Chevrolet
ULMA win of the year last Friday night at Callaway Raceways in Fulton,
Missouri. Schlup, driving the Schlup Red Angus Farms, Superior Power
Cleaning and Cedar Ridge Taxidermy-sponsored #21 bested a mixed field of
ULMA and crate late model drivers for the win, his second of the year at
the 3/8th-mile facility. Schlup's other two wins have come at Lucas Oil
Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, where he also posted a fifth-place
finish last Saturday night, the highest by any ULMA driver of the night
at Lucas. Schlup is now tied with Brett Rollert for the most series wins
with four and moves up three places to eighth place in the point
standings after last weekend. Danny Lorton, who rebounded into the top
five overall standings, posted a third-place finish at Callaway Raceway
last weekend. Danny Monroe, James Rutledge and Trace Westling also ended
up with top ten finishes last Friday at Callaway. Valley Speedway in
Grain Valley, Missouri, was rained out on Friday night. During
Saturday-night racing at Lucas Oil Speedway Kevin Kaiser and Marty Pope
were the only drivers besides Schlup to post top ten finishes. At
Warrensburg's Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), James Rutledge and Brett
Wood finished 4th and 5th respectively with Kevin Coyne, Jamie Wineland
and Derek Nevels just behind in the top ten. Jimmy Jobe posted his
first-ever top ten ULMA finish with a 10th place run at CMS.
Several drivers are expected to take part in a late model special this
Saturday, August 11th at CMS. Although the race is not fully sanctioned
by ULMA it will count as a ULMA points-earning race. CMS late model
rules will apply for the event. All ULMA member drivers participating
must be in compliance with ULMA rules as normal. The winner will go home
with $800 and the payout is spread out nicely throughout the finishing
order with $650 for second, $550 for third, $450 for fourth and so on.
The feature event will be 25 laps and will include 24 starters in the
field. The track will award one track points provisional as will ULMA to
fill out the 23rd and 24th starting spots; however, there will not be
track points awarded for the night. Finishers from 12th to 24th will
receive $100 to start the race. If drivers have competed at least twice
in a late model at CMS prior to the event there is no entry fee. For
those who have not competed at least twice prior to the event in a late
model at CMS there is a $50 entry fee. The standard $60 registration fee
will also be applied to any driver not yet registered at the track for
the 2007 season. Drivers not familiar with general track rules at CMS
are highly encouraged to visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net for more
information. Lucas Oil Speedway is having a "super" late model special
this weekend and will not be running their normal Saturday night race
program. Both Callaway Raceways and Valley Speedway will be running
their normally scheduled race programs on Friday, meaning a total of 3
of the 4 ULMA-affiliated tracks will run this weekend.
Current points leader Jason Estes is looking to rebound from a tough
weekend of competition after a DNF at Warrensburg as is Brett Rollert,
who experienced mechanical trouble while battling for a win last
Saturday at CMS. The two are still separated by only six points heading
into week 17. Estes now has 14 top five finishes and 13 top three
finishes to Rollert’s 14 top five finishes and 11 top three finishes
with Rollert registering four wins to Estes’ three wins. Kevin Kaiser
remains third in the standings with Jon Binning holding down fourth. The
ULMA would like to wish Binning a speedy recovery as he continues to
heal from a finger injury, which has temporarily sidelined him from
competition. As previously mentioned, Lorton rebounds into the top five
this week with Rutledge, Chad Frewaldt, Schlup, Coyne and Wood rounding
out the top ten. A full field rundown of the point standings appears at
the end of this article.
There are now just five weekends remaining in the season with a total of
17 possible points-earning opportunities left as noted here: CMS-5,
Valley-5, Callaway-4, and Lucas Oil-3. For further info on ULMA be sure
