The race for the United Late Model Association Championship (ULMA)
continued last weekend with three more points-earning races taking
place.
Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri, became the latest driver to add
his name to the list of ULMA feature winners by claiming victory at
Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri last Friday night. Schlup raced his
way to victory lane over a field of various FASTRAK crate late models
and Callaway Raceway late models. Schlup currently sits in 15th in the
overall ULMA point standings. Wes Jenkins, another driver from
California, also posted a top-five run at Callaway Raceway and currently
resides in ninth position in the point's battle. There were four member
drivers listed among the 15 finishers during the feature event at
Callaway Raceway. James Rutledge continues to lead the overall point
standings heading into this weekend’s special Duel Showdown event. A
full rundown of the current point standings
appears at the end of this press release.
Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri, was able to run their second
night of racing for 2007 with 14 late model drivers on hand, nine of
which were ULMA member drivers. Chad Frewaldt of Kansas City, Kansas,
posted a strong second place run during the 20-lap feature race. Kansas
City, Missouri driver Jim Adkins; Kingsville, Missouri driver Kevin
Coyne; Cole Camp, Missouri driver Kevin Kaiser and Warrensburg, Missouri
driver Brett Wood also posted top ten runs. This weekend at Valley
Speedway will be the first annual Mike Brockert Memorial race. Valley
Late Models and ULMA Late Models will compete in a 25-lap feature event.
This race is also billed as night one of the ULMA Memorial Day Weekend
Duel Showdown. This two-night race event will then carry over to
Warrensburg's Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday night, May 26th,
where the champion will be crowned using a special weekend only points
system. The "Duel" champion of the two-night race will be crowned at
CMS.
All four ULMA-affiliated tracks; Callaway Raceway, Lucas Oil Speedway,
Valley Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway are scheduled to run their
race programs this weekend. ULMA feature finishes from this weekend's
competition will count towards the ULMA championship. ULMA member
drivers who plan to race in the Duel Showdown will need to pay their $25
entry fee at Valley Speedway on Friday night. The entry fee covers the
fee for the Duel event Friday and Saturday only and DOES NOT include
cost of pit passes for either Valley or CMS. The registration fee for
Valley has been waived for this Friday; this is a one-time deal only.
Non-registered drivers competing at Warrensburg's CMS track for the
first time this year are required to pay a $60 registration fee, a
regular practice at the track. The ULMA Memorial Weekend Duel Showdown
will have bonus money added for competing drivers and a special weekend
only points system will be used to determine the Showdown champion.
After 15 officially scored point-earning events, competing drivers will
begin replacing their lowest points-earning nights with improved
results. There are currently 32 more possible points-earning events for
ULMA members and potential members. Driver membership is only $50; it is
definitely not too late to sign up for the association and join as a
member driver. This year’s prize money and contingency total is valued
at over $8,000! Visit the ULMA Website at www.ulmaracing.com or send
questions any questions you may have to unitedlatemodelassociation@hotmail.com.
