Due to wet conditions this past weekend, the WK Chevrolet ULMA Late
Model
drivers were only able to compete in two of the four scheduled racing
events
as both Friday night ULMA tracks, Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri
and
Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri were forced to cancel their
racing
programs. However, both Saturday tracks were able to race and the action
was fast and furious at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri and
Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri. Brett Rollert
became the second-ever ULMA member driver to race his way into victory
lane
by taking a hard-fought win at CMS in his KB Painting, KC Gutter Tech,
Buzzard Racing Engines, National Agents Alliance, Rot Iron Welding
Fabricators, GRT Grand Prix. Rollert, from Smithville, Missouri, is
trying
to defend his track championship at CMS from 2006, where he won 11
feature
events. With his win and second-place finish last week, Rollert has
moved
to 12th in the overall ULMA point standings.
Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri posted the best run by a ULMA driver
at
Lucas Oil Speedway by racing his way to a second-place finish and moving
to
seventh in the overall standings. Defending Lucas Oil Speedway track
champion Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri brought his machine home in
third with Shawn Williams of Knob Noster, Missouri taking fourth.
Williams
currently sits in second position in the ULMA standings with Kaiser
right
behind in third. Series leader James Rutledge started the feature race
at
Lucas in 25th and was able to make his way up to a 14th-place run.
Rutledge’s five starts have him solidly out front leading the standings.
Kenny Caroll and Donnie Gemes also posted top 15 finishes at Lucas with
Gemes moving to 9th in the overall standings. Ten ULMA drivers were
listed
in the finish of the 26-car starting field for the feature event at
Lucas
Oil Speedway.
At CMS, it looked as though last week’s winner Jason Estes was going to
repeat his win until an early race contact incident left him with
mechanical
woes and a disappointing 16th-place finish. Rollert battled up front for
several laps, trying several different lines until finally making his
move
for the lead late in the event as he sailed on to victory. Jon Binning
of
nearby Warrensburg, Missouri posted his best run of the young season
with a
fourth-place run and road warrior Danny Lorton of Moberly, Missouri also
had
a strong finish in fifth. Lorton had missed recent competition due to a
first-week crash at Callaway Raceway and was happy to come home with a
fifth-place run. Derek Nevels, Jamie Wineland and David Angell each
raced
their way to top ten runs by the end of the feature. Binning is now
sitting
sixth in the overall standings, Wineland holds down 11th with Angell in
17th. Fourteen ULMA members were among the 19-car starting field at CMS.
Next weekend ULMA member drivers will roar back into action as they look
to
increase their point totals at three of the four ULMA tracks. Lucas Oil
Speedway will not be running their regular races due to a super late
model
special event. Callaway, Valley and CMS are all scheduled to run their
regular race programs. A complete listing of the most up-to-date point
standings appears at the end of this press release. ULMA member drivers
earn points by keeping their 15 best point nights throughout the season.
After 15 events, drivers begin replacing their lower points-earning
nights
with improved results. Prospective members should look for the ULMA
track
representatives and banners for registration and information. It’s still
very early in the season and there is plenty of time to join this
exciting
new racing association. Be sure to visit the official Website at
