Cameron, Missouri late model ace Jason
Estes became the first ULMA member to win a feature race this year by
racing his way to victory Saturday night at Warrensburg’s Central
Missouri Speedway (CMS). Estes, along with defending CMS track champion
and fellow ULMA member Brett Rollert, led the field to the green flag
and never looked back in a fast and furious 15-lap caution free run to
the finish. Estes was clearly the class of the field on this night and
won by a straightaway over Rollert; these two also won their respective
heat races. The fans in the stands cheered the fantastic-appearing late
models every time they hit the track at CMS as the late model races were
all ran without incident on a fast and smooth track.
In other ULMA action over the weekend
James Rutledge, Wes Jenkins, Kevin Caldwell and Aaron Todd all picked up
top ten finishes at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO on Friday night.
Then, on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO, it was
Shawn Williams, Chad Frewaldt, Kevin Kaiser, Donnie Gemes and Marty Pope
who all went home with top 10 finishes. Valley Speedway in Grain
Valley, MO was scheduled to start this past Friday but wet grounds
forced cancellation of Valley’s opening night, the track is scheduled to
try again this coming weekend for its first night of competition. This
means that all four ULMA affiliated tracks will be in action this coming
weekend, May 4th and 5th.
With the ULMA points season now
underway, James Rutledge still leads all drivers due to his four starts
so far this year and consistent near the top runs. Rookie of the Year
candidate A.L. Barbour sits in second with Chad Frewaldt, Shawn Williams
and Kevin Kaiser rounding out the top five. With all tracks scheduled
to run this week it will be interesting to see how the points shake up
once again at the conclusion of weekend action. Aaron Todd and Brett
Wood, both of whom are Rookie of the Year candidates are also currently
in the top 10 in the standings. Jason Estes has climbed into the top 15
and currently sits in 13th as Rollert makes his debut on the tally in
15th. Other new drivers making their appearance on the point’s sheet
this week include Allen Perryman, Kevin Coyne, Derek Nevels and David
Angell, all coming in within the top 20. A full rundown of the points
appear at the end of this press release. Member drivers keep their 15
best points-earning nights throughout the season to compete for the
championship. After 15 points-earning nights, drivers will drop their
lowest point night totals with improved performances.
All four tracks have ULMA track representatives,
just look for the ULMA banners for registration and information. Be
