“ULMA Late Models Ready to Roll out Inaugural Year”
The United Late Model Association drivers are ready to start their
inaugural year of racing and will do so on Saturday, March 31st at Lucas
Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, the first night drivers will be
eligible to earn points toward the ULMA championship. The official ULMA
point’s season will run through Saturday, September 8th at Central
Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri. ULMA recently firmed
up a special two-event race for Memorial Day weekend. The first of the
two races will take place at Valley Speedway, in Grain Valley, Missouri,
on Friday, May 25th with the second event following on the next night,
May 26th at CMS in Warrensburg, Missouri. Event details and
contingencies for each night of competition are still being worked;
however, night one will be especially sentimental as Mark and Debbie
Evinger, promoters of Valley Speedway and the ULMA drivers, pay tribute
to fallen late model driver Mike Brockert, who recently lost his battle
with cancer. This event will be billed as the first annual Mike Brockert
Memorial. Earl and Susan Walls will then welcome the ULMA drivers to CMS
for night two of the special race weekend with a 25-lap feature event.
ULMA officially announces three rules clarifications for the coming
season. These are rules clarifications, NOT rules changes. The clarified
information is underlined in each of the following paragraphs. The
updated rules have been sent to affiliated ULMA tracks for Website and
official updating.
The first clarification concerns the BODY portion of the rules and now
reads as: BODIES: ALUMINUM BODIES ONLY (carbon fiber roofs are
acceptable). If a mud screen is used, there must be at least three
safety bars installed in front of driver’s seat and the screen must be
securely attached. For scoring purposes, all car numbers must be visible
on car in a readable contrasting color from body. Numbers will appear on
both doors and on the roof and be at least (18) eighteen inches high and
(4) four inches wide. Car must also have legible numbers at least (5)
inches high on front and rear of car. All cars must have secure pick-up
loops.
The second clarification concerns drive shafts and now reads as follows:
DRIVESHAFT: All drive shafts must be steel and must be painted white and
have car number painted or affixed on them. All cars must be equipped
with a 360-degree drive shaft loop installed at the front of the shaft
in case of breakage. If using a Bert Ball Spline Transmission, an
additional drive shaft loop at rear of drive shaft or an installed
deflection bar at rear of cockpit is highly recommended, but optional.
The third clarification concerns tires and now reads as follows: TIRES:
Hoosier D-55 tire compound. Grooving and siping of tires is allowed. No
softening agents may be added to tires at any time.
Recently, ULMA extended its membership opportunities to car owners and
crewmen with a special membership fee of $25. In addition, fans of late
model racing can show their support to ULMA by becoming affiliate
members for only $10. Affiliate members will receive a ULMA decal upon
receipt of their paid membership and forms. All prospective new members
should visit the official Website and fill out and send in their
membership forms as directed.
Three new contingency sponsors have joined the ULMA team for 2007. Fast
Shaft Drive Shafts from Des Moines, Iowa, will be donating two drive
shafts to be given away to two ULMA member drivers at the conclusion of
the 2007 season. Randy’s Race Mart, Memphis, Missouri, has also signed
on as a contingency sponsor and will be awarding 4 separate $50 gift
certificates at the end of the year to ULMA member drivers. Photography
by Shelly Payne, Odessa, Missouri, will be providing print items and
end-of-season contingencies to ULMA member drivers who finish at the top
of the final point standings. ULMA is proud to be associated with all of
our new contingency sponsors!
ULMA will hold its next meeting on Saturday, March 10th at 1 p.m. at the
Ramada Inn located at 3501 West 50 Hwy, near Wal-Mart in Sedalia,
Missouri. ULMA meetings are open to the general public. Driver
membership fees for 2007 are $50, save time at the track, get signed up
