By now, you may have heard about the newly formed United Late Model Association (ULMA); however, you may be wondering to yourself why do we need another acronym racing group? We would like to tell you all about the ULMA in hopes of answering that question for you. The association was formed by drivers, car owners and crewmen with one thing in mind; to help keep the cost of racing reasonably affordable when competing in a “limited” late model. The ULMA also believes its rules package will be easily enforceable and uniform for many tracks; benefiting not only drivers but tracks as well. In recent times the price of late model racing has spiraled out of control, leaving many drivers to ponder their futures, promoters to wonder what happened to their car counts and fans feeling cheated due to fewer cars competing. Since its inception just two months ago, the ULMA directors have been feverishly working with local track promoters and owners, event organizers, and potential sponsors in order to secure a future. A local well-known driver has already agreed to add money to the end-of-year point’s fund and a growing number of racing enthusiasts are receiving information via the association’s E-mail news release group. Word of is the best method of getting the word out about ULMA late model racing.
The ULMA realizes the importance of a solid membership foundation and is ready to launch a heavy recruitment campaign in preparation for the 2007 season. The directors’ names and e-mail addresses are: President: John Farmer-clintonracer@aol.com; Vice President: Kevin Coyne-kevinc15503@earthlink.net; Secretary: Danny Lorton-dlorton@missvalley.com; Technical Inspection: Kevin Kaiser-kmsports@iland.net; Technical Inspection: Jerry Lee Henson, Jr.-jerry.l.henson@sprint.com; Advisor: Russell Kueffer-kueffer25@earthlink.net; Advisor: Walt Imhoff-walt.imhoff@yahoo.com; Media Relations: Sam Stoecklin-samonthemic@hotmail.com. Feel free to contact any of the above-listed directors for more information.
ULMA representatives will be on hand to accept new member applications and answer questions about the series at the January 27th and 28th, 2007 “Bodee's Racers’ Auction & Trade Show.” This event will take place at the Missouri State Fairgrounds’ Mathewson Center at 2503 West 16th Street in Sedalia, Missouri. Membership dues for 2007 will be $50 and applications are now available by request via the ULMA e-mail address. Dues money will be used for the point’s fund, for special events and other official association expenses. Members will be eligible to participate in ULMA events and are automatically eligible to compete for the inaugural point’s championship. One of the boldest moves in recent racing memory is the ULMA’s attempt to secure a place for its rules package at Midwest dirt tracks and its desire to utilize an inclusive rather than exclusive rules package. The ULMA is a determined organization brought to life by and for racing enthusiasts and is highly anticipating the 2007 season and beyond!
For further information you may E-mail the ULMA at unitedlatemodelassociation@hotmail.com and request to be added to the distribution group. The next ULMA meeting will be on January 20th in Warrensburg, Missouri, at the ABC Building in Grover Park from noon until 1 p.m. We look forward to hearing from and meeting many of you very soon!
